Smart business shows – Verizon again named a top company for diversity

Harnessing the power of diversity at every opportunity is smart business. It’s also very recognizable: Black Enterprise magazine has named Verizon to the publication's annual list of 40 Best Companies for Diversity – again.

This is the sixth year Verizon has made the list. The 40 elite companies were selected based on their commitment to diversity in areas such as employee base, senior management representation, supplier diversity and board of directors.

"Verizon has the privilege of not only employing an extremely diverse workforce, but also serving one of the most diverse customer bases in the country," said Magda Yrizarry, Verizon’s Chief Talent and Diversity Officer. "Delivering on our promise to put our customers first requires a company culture rich in diversity and defined by inclusion, where people can explore new ideas and bring the latest technologies to market. It's an honor to be recognized by Black Enterprise Magazine."
Verizon has been recognized seven times this year for commitment to leveraging the diversity of employees, customers, suppliers and community partners. For example, Verizon has been named a best company for multicultural women, a top 50 company for diversity, and among the top 10 best places for diverse managers to work. Fortune 500 - America's Top Companies

Verizon ranks as #16 on the list of America's top companies.  As a company, we have major room for improvement & advancement to rebuild our diversity overall.

Financials: Latest Results
Rank: 16 (Previous rank: 13)
CEO: Ivan G. Seidenberg
Compare tool: Verizon Communications vs. Top 10
To hear CEO-in-waiting Lowell McAdam tell it, Verizon is about to "kick into a higher gear." Why? Outgoing chief Ivan Seidenberg has invested heavily the past few years in next-generation broadband technologies such as FiOS, a high-speed fiber optic service, and LTE, a 4G wireless network.

Combined with its growing video and cloud computing services, which should also get a boost from Verizon's purchase of Terremark in January, these businesses now account for three-quarters of sales. Then of course there's the iPhone, which Verizon began selling earlier this year. No wonder the communications giant shrugged off the planned union between AT&T and T-Mobile. --P.N.

Best Regards,
Trey
